Bleeding is the term for manually letting the air out of hot water heating systems. There are little fittings on the top of the radiators that air rises to. You put a key (like a skate or clock's) into it and let air out until you get a steady stream of water into a pan. Baseboard heat might have bleeders also, probably where the pipe comes up to or down from a floor. Sometimes there are automatic float operated bleeders.
