Listen to Harold...Go with the Honeywell..it's cheap and it works...A thermostat is a simple thing-it senses temp change and operates as a switch...most use a mercury bulb switch thru a relay....some use bi-metalic coils...either way, it shuts when it get cold and opens when it gets warm...So the boiler turns on and off when it says to...

Even tho your old thermostat is old, it may still work ok...A digital readout may look new and hi-tech, but it doesn't mean it's better....

Yeah, you can do it yourself providing you know what you are doing...

Don't call a plumber to twist wires, call an electrican...
