Boiler for Retort

I am a complete neophyte when it comes to Boilers. I want to set up a steam retort to extract oils from Lavender and other plants (Roses, Geraniums, etc.) To do this I need to purchase and set up a boiler. I have no problem with the retort, condenser, etc, but know nothing about boilers, types of boilers, operation and safety. The retort will hold about a 10 gallon charge (plants) and the steam will be introduced from the bottom and carry the oils off through the top into the condenser.

If there is anyone who would be willing to share their expertise with me I would greatly appreciate it. I understand that the most efficient method of extraction is utilizing steam.

I have made and run several retorts in mining operations to seperate mercury from the gold and silver and in the process recover the mercury. It is the front end of the steam operation that is unknown to me.

I hope to hear from anyone who can give me some direction and guidance as to set-up, type of boiler, cost and safety.

Thanks you

Gerry Strong
