Well, it's time to replace the boiler. I currently have an old Sears boiler, 150,000 btu. The boiler is rated for both steam and hot water. I currently run hot water with 30 feet of altitude. The radiators are cast iron (about one per room) in an old house of about 2500 square feet (and LOTS of windows). The plumbing is a 1" pipe, reduced to 1/2, into the radiator, out on 1/2 then back to 1". Kind of a Burnulli thing. When there is a call for heat, the pump runs (1/3 HP Bell & Gosset). I also run a small wing (600 square feet) with a continuous 1/4 HP pump into some new aluminum baseboard radiators. I have an outside air temp gain thermostat. The old boiler has lost most of its "nubs" and it's time for a replacement. I am looking into a new "high efficiency" boiler. I would install myself. I can work with water pipe & electricity (don't mix them!). OK, I'm listening!
