Long Question

I am not really technical, so I will try to explain
what is happenning the best that I can.

I have a steam boiler. There is a hot water pipe
that goes from the boiler to the water heater (incoming).
There is another pipe that goes from the water heater
back to a boiler (outgoing). My plumber told me that
water heater uses hot water from the boiler to make,
well, hot water. Kind of smart...

There is a pump on the incoming pipe that turns on to
pump hot water from the boiler into the heater. If this
pump is on at the same time as the boiler is on (producing steam for
the radiators), OUTGOING pipe produces noise that sounds
like a lid on a hot kettle (like a metal buzzing or
clicking for better description). This only happens when
both pump and boiler are on. What is going on? Is it
dangerous?

I am sorry for being so long. Thank you very much for
your help.

Ann Marie
