: : Are there any new coal fired utility boilers being built ? With the environmental concerns of coal and the ability to install a gas turbine faster and cheaper is a coal fired utility boiler still a viable option ?

Coal is still a viable option and should be used in utility boilers in conjuction with responsible emissions control technology.
Novacon Energy Systems,Inc.has developed and holds all rights to a process for reducing the major air pollutants from the burning of coal ,wastes, petroleum and other fuels applicable to power plants and boilers. The Novacon Process can also assist in improving combustion efficiency, thus reducing the operating costs of boilers and providing a compelling driver for its use.It can be used in CFBs,PCs,Riley stokers, etc.
The Novacon Process involves the introduction of an inexpensive,naturally-occurring material called a sorbent into boiler coombustion chambers. Novacon has coined the term "Thermally Active Marble" or TAM to define the applicable sorbents that provide the requisite performance.
It is the most affordable methodology to meet compliance+ standards and is especially suited to retrofitting older, grandfathered power plants when scrubbers are considered too costly. Questions are welcome and will be promptly answered along with verified data to support these claims.
