The only question of dependability of a boiler is how long it can hold water without leaking. They are very dependable in that regard.
Everything else about a boiler is: 1. How cleanly and correctly it was installed. 2. How long the controls (made by control manufacturers) last. 3. How long the accessories (made by accessory manufacturers) last. Otherwise - all residential heating boilers must be over 80% AFUE, so really, under warrantee, you can't get a bad one that is made in the USA. True, there is the occasional bad casting or weld - noone is perfect.
