The trends I was talking about have more to do with the fact that some of the "big boys" are taking a keener interest in district energy. Trigen (part of a French multinational) and Enron come to mind. I have also heard reports that large district energy public utilities (St Paul, Toronto) may go private and actively solicit this business nationwide.

Do you feel any of this will happen. And if yes - why now (as you said, the cities have had this option for ages).
