:there would be no change in opening presuure of the safety valve as long as it is in close position. However, should the valve open since there would be a flow of steam through the valve via the reducer,according to Bernoulli's Law the pressure will drop at the inlet of the safety valve causing the valve to return to its shut position and you may experience rattling. Also the reducer might tamper with the capacity of discharge of the safety valve in which case an "Accumulation of Pressure Test" is recommended.
