For example, High Pressure Drum Boilers are generally equipped with chain operated isolation valves for the drum level gauge glasses, where the operator can isolate the gauge glasses safely from a level below the drum itself in the event of a blow out. Is it illegal to operate a boiler without these chain valves operable? Also, is it illegal to operate with both glasses out of service?
