we are welding 347 ss with er 347 filler rod.
the diameters are 8" thru 20" and all the wall thickness is sch 100 for each diameter. we are going to use the gtaw process using an argon sheildiding and purge with a interpass temp. not to exceed 350 degrees. all welds will be ferrite tested. the customer specs call for a ferrite number for ordering ss filler metal and for test results is a range of 2 to 10 FN. it was suggested to use ER 308H or ER 16-8-2 filler rod ,but it was rejected by the engineering firm of record.

my question is that we exceed the max. number or do not reach the minimum number,is there a way to revers the number without cutting out the weld.

are there any recommendations as to controlling ferrite besides controlling interpass temperature and ordering filler metal to a tighter ferrite range?
thanks
