: Is a 200HP Ohio special firetube boiler really capable of delivering 200HP? This is a process system with less than 5% return, DeA, feed water preheating, etc. yet consumes only 50% of theoretical makeup water when running on high fire. Gas consumption is in line with water consumed. We can find small losses here and there, but where is the big dicrepancy? Is 200HP ever a possibility?
What are the water flow and gas flow rates you recorded ? Also do you have an idea of you stack temperature at high fire ? Boiler HP rating is a gross output based on the supply of 212 deg F feedwater so if your feedwater system is consuming a lot of steam to preheat a lot of cold make-up you will reduce the net steam delivered to process. Sounds like you have already considered this though.
