: How often should you clean y-strainers? We have numerous strainers before pumps, PRV's and condensate system. I've asked and the other operators say they have never cleaned them or blew them out at least. We've had a lot of pump issues and PRV failures.
Start by cleaning them all out and repeat the procedure in a month or so, depending on how many you have and how practical it is to repeat that procedure in a month.
If significant buildup or pluggage exists after a month, you have severe corrosion problems in your steam and/or condensate return piping system. The proper neutralizing amine feed will prevent or substantially reduce piping corrosion and strainer pluggage.
