Soot on the Roof

Weil-McLain SGO series 3

I was outside shoveling show and noticed soot specs on the snow which were wafting from the roof. My chimney, from the roof up, is loosing mortar and my clay liner is damaged. I was trying to put in a liner and rebuild the chimney before the temperatures dropped, but it got past me and now there's snow on the roof and more snow on the way. Since last season, I've been getting soot leaking out into the boiler room, but this is the first time I've seen it outside the house.

I'm trying to make it to the thaw when I can give the chimney the tlc it deserves, but now that I'm seeing soot outside, I'm concerned.

At this point, I don't know if I can get a chimney sweep on the roof, and, even if I could, I'm concerned that they're going to completely obliterate my already cracked/crumbling clay liner. I've got a 2' run of what I believe is b vent (single wall galvanized?) going from the boiler to the stack- should I take that apart and clean it by hand? Should I vacuum out the soot in the boiler like the oil company guy does in the spring? Should I put a brush up the stack from the opening in the basement? The refractory at the stack is loose (hence the soot in boiler room), and I could patch that up, but I'm guessing I want to keep that loose, as it's probably better to have soot on the floor than collecting in the stack, right?

I'm just trying to buy about a month here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
