Behavior of sodium hydroxide solutions, and the deposition of water soluble and water insoluble salts containing hydroxide, silca and sulfate on turbine blades has been extensively examined and researched since at least the turn of the LAST century. The details are a little long for this forum.

See "http://www.ideals.illinois.edu/bitstream/handle/2142/4342/engineeringexperv00000i00282_ocr.txt?sequence=2"

for a pretty good write-up from 1936, from "THE CAUSE AND PREVENTION OF STEAM TURBINE BLADE DEPOSITS" from UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, URBANA.

or just google: ["Caustic Soda" turbine deposit]. Have fun.
