: What are the correct procedures for removing rolled-in tubes from a heat exchanger? What are the acceptable tools necessary for use in this procedure? We are having some tubes removed from a heat exchanger(chiller), and have noticed the sub is drilling beside the tube ends then inserting some sort of tool to cut the end and removing. In doing this, damage is being done to the tube sheet causing them to have to weld up then grind off. I have concerns with sealing surfaces being compromised on this multi-pass heat exchanger.
Sure hope they no what their doing . most of the time you collaps the tube or use a tube puller. sounds like the damage is done thats what happens when the boss hires sure we can do it weer plumbers check out www.tubexpanders and see the tools they should have used.
