It doesnt look like anyone helped out on this one. I am assuming you are referring to a surface blow down? The bottom blow should always be manual and should always be used. A automatic probe type surface blow used to control dissolved solids is more expensive, and more troublesome then a manual. if your steam load is fairly consistant you are better off with a manual surface blow. If the system has load swings from hour to hour and day to day (varying day to day steam demand) Then a automatic "probe type" surface blow will be more efficiant in controlling dissolved solids.
