Last year one of our two old Kewanee firetube boilers ended up leaking badly from one corner, at the end of the mud leg. In 2001 we had received an estimate of $1500 from a certified welder to have the section we suspected was rusting through cut-out and a new section welded in. They said it would be as good as new. They could have done it in a day. We ended up replacing the boilers however, to many other things wrong. We went with Bryan water-tube boilers.
