: In simple language what is the differance between a boiler and a steam generator? thanks

Tom brings up a good point, not all steam generators have to be fired units, electric for example.

"Boiler" was initially used many, many yrs ago to say a unit actually boiled water off to generate steam through burning fuels. Now it's just an accepted wording to say a H/W boiler is called a boiler even though it doesn't actually boil off water.
