The fire side as well as the water side of the boilers look great. Last year we did have a little sooting in the fire tube, but that was a tune up issue - nothing to do with availability of combustion air. The dormers are pretty big (about 16 sq ft each) and cannot be closed off unless somebody goes up there with a bunch of plywood and boards them up.

Again, the real question is: does retrofitting for combustion air ductwork have to be done since the boilers are fine and it has been that way long before ASME set up the new standard?
