Call another company, even if it doe's not have a thermocouple, the device it doe's have has to first ignite, and then the unit must sense that the pilot flame has come on,and then it will open main gas,no matter what they are calling it,by law it has to have this protection. If this device do'es not work properly, your unit will do excactly what you are discribing. There are a lot of untrained workers out there, that only know the basic's and will keep giving you a basic answer.Let me know by email once you get this fixed and let me know what it was.For my future ref,and don't take what these guy's are telling you,get someone out, that will take a look at your pilot and main gas sys, that's where the problem is going to be.
