: First time poster here, great forum! We have had a problem with hammer in the condensate return line for years, that I would really like to solve,. The hammer occurs about 4 seconds after the condensate pump shuts off. A very loud bang. My guess is that when the pump shuts off, the head pressure slams the check valve shut, then a shock wave is sent down the pipe, (which runs underground to our Central Utility Plant about 100 yards away) then the shock wave returns back to the pump, when the wave reaches the check valve, the bang occurs. I installed a 60 psi pressure guage and the shock broke it. The bang and the pressure gauge breaking coincided perfect. I'm I deducing this problem correctly? What corrective action can be taken? I just visited Wayne Kirsner's site and have a new found respect for what could happen if water hammer is not addressed. Thanks
