I asw the problem very late from the net. but as the problem was severe i thought of sharing it with you. hence Iam writing my observations.
It seems at the first instance that the instrument showing drum level is faulty.and more over it might have mal functioned.my suggestion is to upgrade your drum level transmitter to YARWAY- HYDRA-STEP which is very accurate and shows level of both sides of drum.this is being used in all of our plants throught-out india. as the temperature of Main steam after boiler reflects after some time (2 to 3 minutes)down the SH spray, you must have had enough time to assess the temperature drop and corrective action. the following may have been seen,
1. MStemperature accross SH spray
2. As far eccentricity is concerned, it never increases suddenly.unless there is a prolonged water ingress into the turbine.
3. close the manual valve in spray lines(if provided) or motorised gate valves immediately after the unit is stopped.
