What is the best practice for keeping boilers on hot standby with minimum fuel consumption? i.e do you fire the boiler 1/day, every other day or 1/week. The reason for asking: recently we converted our 20 MT boiler to run on natural gas. By doing this we have had substantial savings.Nevertheless we still have 4 other boilers which are run on MFO. These units are kept on standby just in case the 20 MT boiler breaksdown. Management wants standby boilers to be run 1/month to save on fuel costs. I disagree. Would appreciate your thoughts on this issue ?
