: Has anyone tried to change the make-up water on an existing steam boiler from soft water to RO water? What problems did you encounter?

Have experience with softened and RO. Generally RO makeup is better and requires less treatment and blowdown once in the boiler. You should not have any problems just understand the differences.

Softened - High TDS (potential for corrosion and carryover) but no calcium or magnesium.

RO - Low TDS (low potential for corrosion and carryover) but some low hardness levels.

Hope this helps.
