If the tank has a general wasting of metal below the water line, then that's pH related. If you've got pitting, then that's from dissolved oxygen.

Are you adding make-up water to the condensate tank before it gets pumped to the DA? If you are, then the dissolved oxygen in the make up water will pit a carbon steel tank. When heat is added to the mix (as in hot condensate), look out. The pitting really goes nuts. There are two possible solutions. Go with the SS tank, or run the make-up water directly to the DA.
