Hi Will - I took the Power and process engineering course back in 1984 when it was still offered at Vancouver vocational institute; challenging course but very worthwhile. If you take this course you will probably find a job very quickly - companies used to come to the school to hire people before they graduated. Not sure if this is still the case but I know there is all kinds of work and opportunity in Alberta for power engineers. Just need to look at the career listings. There seems to be a shortage of experienced 2nd and 1st class engineers in BC.
Power engineering is very interesting and rewarding and the pay is good, especially in the pulp, paper, and oil industries.
I have travelled around a lot, worked in 5 different pulp and paper mills in BC and Alberta and am presently half way through my 1st. Good luck with your career choice.
