: When we blow down our 400 psi boiler, the water goes straight into a waste water tank. In the line there were what they called separators. Anyone know what these were used for? It seems to me you can't have that kind of pressure going straight into a wastewater tank...any input? I'm not sure why they removed them.

There should not be anything inside a blowdown line besides the 2 valves at the drum. The boiler has to blow into a certified blowdown tank which is a designed pressure vessel. See the ASME code or your jurisdictional codes for requirements. I have no idea what these separators are that you mentioned, or if your waste water tank is a certifified blowdown tank.
