Typically coal requires more excess air (15-20%) while oil can be anywhere from (10-15%). This of course depends on the type and condition of your burner equipment
: While it would ordinarily bring a response that pulverized coal requires more excess air on older technology boilers, the answer can depend upon the type of burning. A fluidized bed or blown coal can make different characteristics. At times, 6 oil burners are used as preliminary ignition for coal combustion.
