Lowering steam pressure due to capping a rusted pipe

I recently discovered that an 1 1/2' steel heating pipe, off my steam boiler, rusted through because
it was in contact with the soil in a very small crawl space. I gently tugged on the pipe and a ten foot section
came free into my hands. I capped the 1 1/2" pipe from the furnace and I know need to fix two things.

#1) Now that I no longer have steam freely flowing from my heating system, my psi now runs up to
3 - 4 psi, not good. Before it never went above 1. How can I reduce this if possible?
#2) I need to fix the broken pipe in a very small crawl space. I've been told that PEX tubing can
be used to do this, it being much more easily fished and connected. Can I do this and what size
diameter PEZ do I need to use to connect up with an 1 1/2" steel steam pipe, if even possible?
Thank you so much if you can help me, Thanks Mark.
