Are you mixing condensate with make-up water in a carbon steel tank? If you are, then it's oxygen corrosion that's taking out your tank. If you need to mix hot condensate with make-up water that's full of dissolved oxygen, you'll likely need to go to a stainless steel tank.

What kind of problems are you having with the pump? It may just be a matter of getting some more suction head, by elevating the tank over the pump. (Likely the easiest to do when replacing the leaking tank anyway.) Keep the suction pipe as straight as possible, and make it one pipe size larger than the suction connection on the pump.
