We recently had a large heating line leak in an industrial building. The inside of our return air plenums are now covered with a orange (rust-coloured) fine powder that must be cleaned. Does anyone know the (probable) constituents of this precipitate - is the colour likely resultant from a treatment product or an iron oxide or ??? I am pretty sure that the lines are in trouble, but my concern is that the cleaners are safe when cleaning the powder up. (The health of the heating system is not my main concern - maybe sacreligious to say that on this chat room, sorry.) I have the MSDS's for the treatment products, but colour is not fully described. Many thanks for any help provided!
