Otherwise, it's probably just a waste of chemicals and water. We stopped doing blowdowns every shift about ten years ago, and our boilers have never looked better. We blow once a day--and THAT is probably too often. It's at least a good idea to ensure the line isn't getting plugged.

We DO however have a surface blow on all the time, and are real careful to check our TDS.
