Their is no state license in CA. Los Angeles County is the only place that one is required. If you plan on working in L.A. County you will be required to obtain either an 500 H.P or unlimited license depending on what your employer wants. You will need to study "Steam Plant Operation" by Woodruff & Lammers. For the unlimited you will be required to answer 50 questions with a 70% to pass, then you if you get past that you then have to do an oral exam which includes a step by step sequence of a cold boiler start-up.
