Thanks a lot for the informative explanation, it seems hot/cold make the cast iron expand and shrink, and cause the gasket failed to function. it's kind of waste to keep it warm year around, even on vacation, but still cheaper than the cost to replace the gasket.

Is it a good idea to use a eletricity tanked water heater in the summer to keep the boiler quiet, and use the boiler only in winter?
