Make sure you do not have steam blowing out air vents (if one-pipe) on radiators, or the pcking glands on the valves. Also, vents on mains in basement. A lot of water can disappear that way. If everything is tight and you can't find leaks, shut it down and add water until the boiler is full. Leave it like that for a while and see if you get water on the floor. You may have at the waterline and the steam is going up the stack. With the deregulation of gas, oil may be just as good a choice if you have a good dealer and your tank and chimney are in good shape.
