Oil Boiler Flue Temp

I have a oil-fired boiler which is power vented (no chimney when installed). My flue gas temp is over 600F. I am thinking about getting a heat exchanger for the flue to reclaim some of this lost heat. My questions are - 1. Is my flue temp excessive? 2. Do the heat exchangers work for the flue gas work?
