He is actually suggesting the 220,000 BTU model. It is a large space -- 4,000 square feet and 13 foot ceilings. There are a lot of hot water consumers (3 bathrooms and the usual other appliances). There currently are two 50 gallon H20 heaters, though one of the two works a lot harder just because of bathroom usage. Sound too big?

I was not asking anyone to do the impossible cost-wise. I was trying to figure out what these units cost and some means of labor comparison (i.e., to swap out the existing 20-year old Weil-McLean and A.O. Smith would take two people 12 hours?? three people 10 hours?? four people five days??). The gas line need not be moved, and the existing chimney will be reused.
