My oil/steam boiler cracked this winter. I wanted to replace it with either an oil boiler, Weil Mclain SGO 3 that the fuel comapny installs or a Crown Bermuda boiler that a local heating co. will install. I had the chimney cleaned and checked today and was told I need a new steel liner no matter boiler which I choose. But he said that because of draft and efficiency I should consider gas. The chimney is shared with a gas water heater and the new liner will be 6" wide, therefore an oil burner will not run as well. It really needs 7" flue.
I like oil, but I guess gas wins by default. Any thoughts?
