I've seen this mentioned in a boiler install manual to prevent condensation in a boiler as an alternative to a bypass. Looks like it shown to be installed on the supply piping right out of the boiler before expansion tank and pump. Now if this union restricts flow until the water temp comes up to temp, could this effect the circ pump if it holds back flow through the boiler? Would this be better to use then a bypass since it gives the boiler time to heat the water rather then allow cold return water back into the boiler?
