Observe the old valve that is on the radiator. It has a seat low in the body of the valve to permit water to drain from the radiator, so make sure you replace it with a new special steam valve that has the low seat. A plumbing supply will have the nipples already cut in lengths shorter than 12 inches and if you need longer ones, you can ask them to cut them for you. Your local plumbing/heating supplier might have or can order these parts for you. This makes it simpler pipe fiting.
